Volosko is a small fishing and tourist town in Kvarner, about 2 kilometers north of the center of Opatija. Volosko, a charming little town dotted with narrow streets where smiling children play, is known for its top-notch restaurants and taverns that invite guests to a delicious meal with their intoxicating aromas. Volosko is the introduction to the beautiful story called Lungomare, Opatija’s favorite promenade that takes you all the way to Lovran.
Bathers are regular guests of this fishing town because the always relaxing Črnikovica beach awaits them there. Have a coffee on the beautiful Volosko waterfront and watch the skillful fishermen sailing into the harbor. At a time when Opatija did not yet exist as a fashionable tourist destination, Volosko was the county seat, a trading port, and an administrative center.
Today, Volosko has lost its importance, but the magical appeal of a picturesque seaside town, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists, a refuge for all those seeking an oasis of peace in narrow streets, with a cup of coffee on the waterfront, in the unique ambiance of the fishing port and the large and small piers remains.
There is something special about the view of the open sea from the top of the Volosko waterfront: from here the entire Adriatic Sea opens up to the south…
Walking through the narrow streets of the old Volosko core, you will come across a monument that reminds us that here, in a house at the very beginning of the Lungomare coastal promenade, Andrija Mohorovičić, a great scientist of world renown, was born, the discoverer of the discontinuity plane that separates the Earth’s crust from its mantle, was born.
Today, Volosko is also synonymous with good gastronomy – from typical taverns and fish markets where you can enjoy local specialties, to top-notch restaurants that have found their place in the world’s most prestigious gourmet guides – Volosko offers all of this, and much more. Discover gastronomic delights, learn the secrets of fishing, relax on the terrace of a cozy cafe by the sea. Let yourself be carried away by the charm of Volosko! OPATIJA:
