Lupoglav is located at the intersection of traffic roads, where the direction leading to the center of the peninsula separates from the direction Trieste – Rijeka. Today, it is the seat of a municipality that stretches all the way to the slopes of Učka and Ćićarija and south to Boljunski polje.

The settlement is full of newer detached houses, located around the road, but without the recognizable vertical bell tower that would immediately alert us to the center of the settlement elsewhere in Istria. How is that?

In order to understand the current situation, it is necessary to look up towards the steep slopes of Ćićarija and look for the elevation where the Mahrenfels castle, the seat of the Lupoglav lordship, stood in the middle of the 17th century. That castle was located about 1.5 km east of today’s settlement. In the very center of Lupoglav, there is a building plot full of potential.
