Pinoso or El Pinós rests on the border between the provinces of Alicante and Murcia. This large traditional town is surrounded by the Spanish countryside and has around 50 restaurants and bars, a medical center open 24 hours, and a large sports center with facilities for football, tennis, padel, rock climbing, and gyms.
Pinoso has all the amenities you need: Supermarkets such as Consum, Dia, Mas y Más, and Hiperber, a wide range of restaurants (including Irish and Indian) and bars (50+), a 24-hour medical center, English-speaking dentists, veterinary services, a weekly market on Saturday, and an indoor market open 6 days a week. Pinoso has 3 primary schools, a high school, and a music school. There is also a new cultural center housing a library and Spanish classes open to foreigners.
Throughout the year, Pinoso hosts traditional Spanish fiestas with parades and musical performances which are renowned across the country. These events often include bonfires and an annual running of the bulls (the bulls are not harmed) that attracts crowds from the region.
The city of Elda and Petrer is a 20-minute drive away and features a large hospital with English-speaking doctors, a wide variety of bars and restaurants, an indoor shopping center, large international gyms, Carrefour, Aldi, Lidl, a cinema with English movies shown weekly, and bowling and fast-food outlets.
Alicante airport, city, and beaches are only a 45-minute drive away.
Pinoso has a population of around 10,000 and was previously focused on agriculture with a thriving footwear industry. The origins of Pinoso are influenced by various cultures, including the Iberians, Romans, and Moors. After the reconquest, Pinoso came under the control of the Kingdom of Aragon and gradually gained independence from Monovar in 1826. The parish church was built in 1743 in honor of Saint Peter the Apostle.
The area around Pinoso remains mainly agricultural, with grapevines being the most widely grown crop. The local Monastrell variety is popular and yields high-quality red wines for which the region is known. Pinoso is also significant for the production of marble and rock salt.
