Hondon de las Nieves and its nearby village, Hondon de los Frailes, are situated in a scenic valley inland from Alicante, Spain. These villages embody a traditional Spanish atmosphere, maintaining a friendly environment that has changed little over time.

The name Hondon de las Nieves translates to “Gorge of the Snow.” It reflects the community’s loyalty to their patron, the Virgin of the Snow. This significant figure plays a central role in village life, culminating in a fiesta dedicated specifically to her.

Historically, Hondon de las Nieves traces its roots back to at least the time of the Greeks. It became independent from Aspe in 1839. Over the years, the towns of Hondon de las Nieves and Hondon de los Frailes were established as separate municipalities.
